A cast member from a Stranger Things musical coming to Swindon says he will be exploring the town’s history.

Stranger Sings is a musical based on the hit Netflix show which is set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins where a gang of children investigate a nearby science plant.

The live stage show is coming to town for a two-night stint in January after a successful run on off-Broadway.

William Shackleton from Chester plays Dustin in the production and is looking forward to performing in Swindon for the first time.

“I have never performed in, or been to, Swindon and I'm very excited to change that when we arrive at the Wyvern Theatre in January,” he said.

“I'm looking forward to visiting the town that was built on steam and exploring some of its history during my downtime when I'm not performing.”

The 26-year-old has been playing Dustin in Stranger Sings since its original UK production at The Vaults in Waterloo last winter.

“Our wonderful director Ellis Kerkhoven asked me to audition for Dustin in his new project and I thought that it sounded very up my street,” said William.

“After watching some of the series, I quickly realised that Dustin was a very charismatic and endearing character.

“So, I went along to the audition and, thankfully, after a couple of rounds of auditions, I got offered the part.”

William and the rest of the cast’s live show aims to replicate the iconic Netflix series on stage but adds even more humour to proceedings.

“The thing that sets this show apart from any other that's on at the moment is that it is a pitch-perfect love letter to the most popular TV series in the world,” he said.

“Stranger Things has universal appeal and we take the characters from this unique, spellbinding world, who people all over the globe adore - and, essentially, turn up the dial on all their most lovable and hilarious qualities.

“Sewn together with a belter of a score, a laugh-a-minute script, well-observed, rich characterisation, and sets and costumes that bottle the world of Hawkins into an energetic, technicolour parody; we give Stranger Things fans, young and old, an experience that allows them to become even more smitten with the characters they already know so well.”

Strangers Sings is at the Wyvern Theatre on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 with doors opening at 7.30 pm.

Tickets are priced from £28 rising to £42.
