Temporary traffic lights in Royal Wootton Bassett have caused major delays for rush hour motorists near Swindon.

The two-way lights, put up by Wessex Water, were installed on the A3102 on Monday, February 5, and are expected to remain in place for 12 days while the water company carry out sewer repairs.

But the temporary lights are causing major delays for motorists getting in and out of Royal Wootton Bassett, and those commuting to and from Swindon.

One passerby explained that a large stretch of the busy commuter road next to the Churchill pub has been reduced to only one lane, and this is also causing issues for drivers coming off the roundabout between the Churchill and Sally Pussey's Inn.

AA traffic maps on Monday, February 12 showed vehicles queuing along the entire length of the A3102 up to the Spittleborough Roundabout and joining on to the M4.

These major delays are expected to continue throughout the week until essential sewer work has been completed.
