A formal notice of 'casual vacancies' has been given by Wroughton Parish Council following the deaths of two councillors.

Councillors Jeremy Kemble, 80, and Dave Edwards, 68, died in December and January respectively.

Local electors for the parish council now have until February 23, 2024 to request an election, and if 10 or more do so an election will be held for each spot.

The notice said: "The rule allows for 10 local government electors to request the returning officer to hold an election to fill the vacancy.

"That request must be made within 14 days. The 14-day notice period ends on February 23, 2024."

Requests must be made in writing to the returning officer at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street.

The notice adds: "If a request for an election to fill the said vacancy is made in writing to the returning officer, by 10 electors for the said parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy.

"If a request to hold an election is not received during the permitted time period the parish council must, as soon as practicable after the expiry of the 14-day period, co-opt a person to fill the vacancy."

The funeral for Dave Edwards is set for February 26, at North Wiltshire Crematorium, Swindon, at 1pm with an informal dress code.
