A school in Swindon's town centre has responded after parents complained about being fined for parking in a closed-off layby.

Parents have been using a former slip-road onto Drakes Way that is now blocked off as a convenient spot to drop off and pick up their children at the start and end of the school day.

Vinbert Pereira spoke to the Adver about the issue and claimed that there was no nearby signage or road markings to indicate the space was unsuitable to use as a drop-off bay.

Swindon Borough Council then clarified that the area was considered to be part of the Drakes Way clearway, where parking is forbidden at all times.

Now, Holy Cross Catholic Primary School's headteacher has explained where families can safely park.

Sam Dowdeswell added: "‘As the school has limited parking for staff only, Holy Cross Catholic Primary School has had an agreement with Swindon Town Football Club for a few years now, allowing all parents to park in the County Ground car park for free at drop off and pick up times.

"We are extremely grateful to STFC for this arrangement as it provides a safe solution for our parents to be able to safely bring their children to and from school and many of our parents use this facility on a daily basis."
