A year after residents were told they had to leave, a nursing home in Swindon is now on the market.

Cheriton Nursing Home located on Westlecot Road in Old Town was a functioning care home in the town until last year but is now up for grabs for the sum of over £1.9million.

The listing on Zoopla by agent Richard James says the building was originally built as six individual period homes dating back to the early 20th century.

It adds: "These substantial set of properties are under two titles WT287000 and WT139724. which forms a combined area of approximately 0.86 of an acre."

The listing also boasts about the location, Westlecot Road, being "one of the most prestigious roads in the Old Town area of Swindon" and adding that it was "within close walking distance to many amenities including restaurants, bars, and cafes."

"Offers are invited on an unconditional and conditional basis and the client is not bound to accept the highest or any offer," it adds.

"There is great potential for conversion or redevelopment subject to planning. Viewings are strictly by appointment only."

Swindon Advertiser: Cheriton Nursing Home

The care home, which was rated good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was being operated by Cheriton (SW Care) Ltd up until March 2023 when residents and families were told to find a new venue for their care, and to do so within a month.

Residents' relatives were called into a meeting with the facility's staff and Swindon Borough Council representatives earlier this month to receive the bad news.

One family member who wished to remain anonymous said: "We were very surprised by this, I think everyone else was too.

At the time, councillor Brian Ford was the borough council's Cabinet member for adults and health.

He said: “This is an incredibly unsettling time for both the residents and their families and we will be doing everything we can to support them.

“We have been working closely with the management of Cheriton to ensure that we find all the residents new placements in other nursing homes which best support their needs.”

The care provider was then archived on the CQC website on April 26 because they are now no longer registered with CQC to provide health and adult social care services.
