Wiltshire's Stonehenge has been ranked among the top 10 most disappointing UK landmarks.

Stonehenge is perhaps the world's most famous prehistoric monument and also one of the biggest mysteries.

A legend from the 12th century claimed giants placed the monument on a mountain in Ireland before a wizard named Merlin magically moved the stone circle to England. 

Sadly, neither Merlin nor the giants stuck around, to the detriment of tourists.

Taking a seed list of some of the UK’s biggest tourist landmarks, the team at language learning platform Preply analysed the number of 1, 2, and 3-star reviews for each landmark on Tripadvisor to reveal which of the UK’s most famous tourist attractions are considered to be disappointing.

Stonehenge is believed to be at least 4,500 years old and is the only surviving stone circle of its kind.

With over 7,000 reviews praising its excellence, a handful of visitors were left disappointed by Stonehenge, describing it as ‘disappointing’ for young children and commenting on the high price point.  

It ranks third behind London's Tate Modern (23%) art museum in first place, and Science Museum (22%) in second place. 

It’s followed closely by Blackpool Tower (20%) in fourth place and the Southbank Centre  (20%) ranked fifth.
