There are lots of fun Easter activities going on around Swindon over the bank holiday weekend.

Lydiard Park’s Easter trail returns between 11am and 3pm on Sunday, March 31. Trail sheets can be picked up at the Coach House Tea Rooms and tickets cost £5 per child. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Lydiard Park Hotel will be offering a hot crossed bun and hot drink for £5, a braised lamb special of the Sunday lunch, and a hog roast including free range pork with homemade coleslaw, applesauce and stuffing on Friday, March 29, and Sunday, April 30.

The historic building’s museum will reopen on Saturday with a new exhibition called Lest We Forget which tells the story of the American 101st Airbourne Division constructing a military hospital in the park’s grounds in 1943.

The exhibit tells the experiences of some of the African American GIs who lived and worked in Wiltshire.

The exhibition at Lydiard House Museum has been developed by the Wessex Museums Partnership, with archive material from the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre and the National Archives, a memorial wreath from Wiltshire Museum, and objects and artwork from the collection at Museum and Art Swindon.

Younger visitors can take part in the Signals and Cyphers activity on Thursday April 4 and 11, which is free with museum entry.

Swindon Borough Council’s other country parks – including Town Gardens, Queens Park, GWR Park, St Mark’s Recreation Ground, Seven Fields, Mouldon Hill Park, Coate Water and Stanton Park - will also be open over the Easter weekend.

The Steam Museum’s Meet the Railway Workers exhibition begins on Saturday as special exhibitions Locomotives Through The Lens and In a Man’s World are being extended.

Younger visitors can try the Bridge Builders Event on Wednesday, April 3 and 10, where htye can learn how to build bridges using Polydron and the museum’s own bespoke wooden models of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s bridges. This activity is free with museum entry.
