Police have confirmed a seven-year-old boy has died following a serious crash on the M4.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a crash between a Scania lorry and a VW Polo on the westbound carriageway of the motorway near Wiltshire, at around 1pm on Tuesday, March 26.

The M4 was closed in both directions for several hours between Bath and Bristol while police and an air ambulance worked at the scene.

The westbound carriageway remained shut until around 7.30pm, causing heavy traffic throughout the day from Bristol to Chippenham.

Police have now confirmed that a seven-year-old boy died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics.
