The grandad of eight-year-old Lennix who died after being hit by a car was among those desperately trying to give him CPR at the scene, it has been reported. 

Lennix had reportedly been playing with friends on Saturday afternoon in the quiet Woodland View cul-de-sac in Dilton Marsh, Wiltshire, when he was fatally struck. 

On Sunday, Lennix's family released a statement via Wiltshire Police describing the youngster as "the light of our small village."

Now the Daily Mail has reported more heartbreaking details of what happened after speaking to the boy's grandad Nigel Sutcliffe and mother Jackie Meredith. 

The Mail reports that Nigel was on his way back from visiting nearby shops when he heard screams that a boy had been knocked over on Woodland View. 

Along with an off-duty policeman, he rushed to the scene and began giving Lennix CPR, but he could not be saved. 

Nigel told the news organisation: "I'm broken over it. My little shining star has gone. 

"We had a strong bond and we will miss him. I can't understand how something like this can happen."

Mother Jackie added: "He was bubbly and kind, loved by everybody. He had so many wonderful friends. He had his birthday two weeks ago and had his whole life ahead of him."

Swindon Advertiser: A neighbour named Stephen Bosson who lives near The Breach Park said his grandchildren were also playing at the time.

"The children were playing tag when they came running to say a boy was under a car. An off-duty police officer and neighbours gave him CPR. They had to try.

"We're shaken as a community. The children are confused and can't understand why he's not going to school on Monday."

Another neighbour said they saw three people trying to resuscitate Lennix.

His mother said that everyone in the area had been very supportive and a fence of the nearby park has been adorned with flowers, cards and other tributes to the schoolboy.

Among the tributes was a card from his mother and father which read: 'To my darling boy. Fly high superstar. Love you always mummy and daddy.' 

A vigil was also held there at 7pm on Sunday.  

Emergency services, including Wiltshire Air Ambulance, were called out to the road at 4.30pm on Saturday, but Lennix was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The latest from Wiltshire Police was that a man in his 30s was being interviewed 'as is usual in these circumstances'.

'Our thoughts are with the family at this extremely difficult time', a Wiltshire Police spokesperson said.
