The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates' Court earlier this month.

SWINDON: Paul Turner, of Tydeman Street, has been sentenced for assault by beating.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to hitting a woman in Swindon on October 1, 2023.

He received an eight-week prison sentence which has been suspended for 24 months.

The jail time was issued because the offence involved attempted strangulation and a child was present at the time of the incident, and it was suspended because the defendant is not likely to re-offend if he works with probation and completes the requirements of the order.

SWINDON: Kofi Ageymany, of Harrowden in Bradville, Milton Keynes, has been sentenced for travelling by train without a ticket.

The 19-year-old went on a Great Western Railway route on January 22, 2024, without paying the £126.40 fare.

He must pay that back in compensation as well as a £220 fine, £180 in court costs, and £88 to fund victim services - £614.40 altogether.

SWINDON: Kayleigh Nicholls, of Clarence Street, has been sentenced for assault by beating of an emergency worker.

The 28-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to hitting a police constable on April 10, 2024.

She received a £200 fine and must pay £80 to fund victim services.

OLD TOWN: Antonio Bryan, of Blandford Court, has been sentenced for driving without a licence.

The 27-year-old drove a BMW 118D along Victoria Road without a valid licence on July 9, 2023.

He received a six-month driving ban and must pay a fine of £153 as well as £90 in court costs plus £61 to fund victim services.

PEWSEY: Jonathan Wright, of Oak Place in Newton Abbot, has been sentenced for travelling by train without paying.

The 53-year-old used a GWR route on October 7, 2023, while avoiding the £221.90 fare.

He must pay that back in compensation as well as a £220 fine, £180 in court costs, and £88 to fund victim services - £709.90 altogether.

DEVIZES: Nicholas Bance, of Meadow Drive, has been sentenced for driving without insurance.

It was proved in the 76-year-old’s absence that he drove a Peugeot 2008 along Commercial Road on June 10, 2023, without having a valid insurance policy in place.

He received six penalty points on his driving licence and must pay a £660 fine as well as £90 in court costs plus £264 to fund victim services.

CORSHAM: John Mongan, of Easton Lane in Chippenham, has been sentenced for theft from a shop.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to taking food and drink worth £40 from the Co-op in Corsham on January 10, 2024.

He must pay £40 in compensation as well as £45 in court costs plus £32 to fund victim services.
