A BUSY shortcut in Cirencester is closed today while the final stage of renovation works are carried out.

Argos alleyway - which connects The Waterloo and Dyer Street - in Cirencester will be closed to pedestrians today, Wednesday, May 8 so that colourful flooring, designed by a local artist, can be installed.

Cotswold District Council has been working with Cotswold Community Safety Partnership to transform the alley after rising concerns that the path felt unsafe and attracted unwanted antisocial behaviour.

Over the last year, lights have been put up to illuminate the space, the alley's walls have been painted blue and plant pots have been placed near its entrance.

CDC hopes that the project will be completed by the end of the week.

The council has published the following map which shows an alternative route from The Waterloo to Dyer Street which pedestrians can use today.
