CHRIS Pethick is hoping to see more Dr Jekyll than Mr Hyde from his Purton side this season as he targets a top six finish in One West.

Purton endured a rollercoaster of emotions last year, with some excellent wins offset by some heavy defeats at the hands of the division’s big hitters.

But after bringing in the likes of former Supermarine striker Justin Miller and the experienced Ade Roper this summer, Pethick, pictured, believes he can finally address the inconsistency that has plagued his spell in charge at the Red House.

He said: “I’m looking for a top-six finish. If we don’t get there I will be disappointed with the squad that we have put together.

“We have worked hard to secure players we felt could help our side. In particular, the signings of Mutley (Miller) and Ade Roper will provide us with valuable experience.

“Ade has been there and done it and will provide us with a strong guidance defensively, which in the past we have maybe lacked.

“Justin is a proven goal scorer and everyone knows what he can do. We’re all really excited to have him here.

“His work with his back to goal is brilliant and I hope he can prove to be the link up player we have been looking for.

“He’s played up front with Warren Fuller in previous teams and I look forward to seeing them play together.”

With the first team squad starting to take shape, Purton have also invested in their reserve team set-up.

Stef Kuczynski has moved from defunct Wiltshire League outfit Aldbourne to take the reserve team reins, bringing most of his old squad with him.

“Stef has brought some good players over with him and it has really boosted our squad,” revealed Pethick.

“It’s ironic really. Last season we struggled to get two teams out and this year we could probably field three.

“Now when we are struggling with injuries in the first team we will have some quality replacements to call on.

“I’m really looking forward to it now. As I said, top six has to be the aim and anything better than that will be a bonus.”
