Swindon residents raised their glasses to an inflatable pub, despite rain lashing down during a charity event.

A blow-up boozer attracted visitors to Churchward community green, near Padstow Road and Saltash Road, at the weekend.

And the bad weather didn’t prevent people donning Halloween costumes and downing a pint or two.

Money raised on the day went towards the GWR Kids’ appeal.

GWR Kids raises money and awards grants to community groups and charities supporting children and young people up to the age of 18.

“The weather was the only disappointment of the day,” said organiser Emi Woollatt, of Beer Xpress.

“It was freezing and wouldn’t stop raining. It may have gone against us but that didn’t stop a lot of people having fun.

“Everyone really liked the inflatable pub.

“Lots of people made an effort with their fancy dress costumes. There were vampires, witches and devils.

“A big thank you to everyone who supported us and helped us set up and pack away.

“We would like to do more events like this in the future.

“We hope next time it will be bigger and better and the weather will be on our side.”

DJs and bands, including Swindon group Mojo, added music to the day.

More conventional bouncy castles were available for the children to play on.

There were prizes for the best dressed child in costume and a pumpkin competition, face painting and a food marquee.

A 20-minute performance from Kim’s Academy of Dance, based at Dorcan Recreation Centre, was also a highlight of the day.
