The Pink Rooms has been nominated as the best gay club in the south west.

Readers of the Pink Paper have nominated the club for the award for the second consecutive year.

After the Victoria Road establishment triumphed last year, promoters of the venue are hoping for the same result this time.

The venue, which opened in December 2006, has a capacity of 300 and is often packed on Friday and Saturday nights.

“It’s great we’re up for the award again,” said owner Helen O’Gorman.

“I think this is such an achievement for Swindon to be once again recognised for its gay community.

“I think we offer something very different in the area. It’s a friendly place to go.

“It’s a club anyone can go to, it doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight or somewhere inbetween, you can come along and a fun time.

“We’re just about to celebrate our second anniversary on December 15.”

The venue appeals to a wide audience. It offers a full cocktail menu and since it opened has attracted some top flight DJs.

Helen is also the owner of the Pipers Arms in Devizes Road in Old Town, which has just been nominated for best pub in the south west as well as the best pub across Britain by readers of the Pink Paper.

Both venues are up against some tough competition, with the likes of Come To Daddy in Bristol going for the south west title and G-A-Y Bar in London going for the best bar or pub in Britain.

There are five nominations in each category having been whittled down from thousands of nominations. Online voting ends at 10am on December 17.
