VOICES from a Swindon school joined a world record attempt for the biggest ever simultaneous sing-along.

Youngsters from Commonweal School, and more than 3,000 other schools all over the country, joined together to break the current record and raise funding for Marie Curie Cancer Care, CLIC Sargent and Youth Music.

The 100 pupils from Swindon, aged from 11 to 16, sang along from the live feed to the song You Gotta Be, performed by singer and songwriter Des’ree at the 02 arena in London.

The successful attempt went ahead on Thursday afternoon.

“The air was electric and everyone had a great time,” said Commonweal’s community arts development officer Josie Williams.

“It was a great opportunity for them to be part of a record attempt. They really took it on with their hearts.

“A lot of the children were asking if they could do it again.”

Money raised, which is yet to be counted, will provide essential funding for the charities. The Big Sing brings together the two music organisations Youth Music and Young Voices.
