VANDALS who launched unprovoked attacks on buses in Swindon are being hunted by police.

On Thursday last week a bus was targeted by youths throwing objects as it travelled along Moredon Road at about 9.10pm.

Then on Tuesday night more yobs threw items at three buses travelling through the town.

This time the vehicles were attacked as they travelled along Queen’s Drive, at 5pm, Fleming Way at 5.10pm and 8.45pm on Windsor Road.

Although no-one was injured in the attacks, windows were smashed.

Eggs were also thrown at the vehicles from the roof of Debenhams on Tuesday.

Acting Inspector Chris Palframan said: “Swindon police are keen to speak with anyone who has any information relating to these incidents.

“We are committed to combating incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour in the town, something echoed in the positive results seen by Operation Hawk over recent weeks. We are working closely with the bus company in regards to these offences.

“Members of the public can be assured that public transport throughout Swindon continues to be one of the safest ways to get around the town.”

Paul Jenkins, managing director of Thamesdown Transport, said: “As well as costing us many thousands of pounds a year in replacing glass on our buses, which ultimately has an effect on the price of our bus fares, these incidents pose a real safety risk to our staff and to our passengers.

“The people throwing missiles at our buses need to remember it’s someone from their local community travelling on the bus who could be injured if a window is broken.

“Also the people doing this are someone’s son or daughter. Someone must know who is causing this damage. I would urge anyone with information about the culprits to contact the police.”

Anyone with information surrounding any of the incidents is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
