On 18th March Greendown Community Secondary School gave a fantastic assembly to the Peatmoor pupils. They started with a quiz to see what they knew already.
They made a very clear explanation about how Fair-trade is right and what does Fair-trade actually mean. They also showed all the different types of food you could buy that was Fair-trade. The assembly was led by three very talented girls who really showed the school that they were talented speakers and had learnt a lot about Fair-trade.
The group of girls explained how the children could help farmers all over the world.
They also showed the school that a normal banana would cost 30p. Out of that 30p farmers got 1p (SHOCKING!). Angela Proctor (Primary Schools Co-ordinator at Greendown.) arranged the event for the Peatmoor pupils. Mr Watermeyer a teacher at Peatmoor was extremely pleased about them coming in and showing the children how Fair-trade can really make difference.
All the children at Peatmoor were really excited about the assembly and had a great time. Mrs Williams (a TA at Peatmoor) said: “I thought it was very informative and it was very interesting to see that the farmer only got one pence!”
A pupil called Sam Orchard said: “It was very interesting and I didn’t know you could get so many Fair-trade products!”
Angela Proctor would be willing to arrange the assembly for any others schools. Please contact Greendown Secondary School to arrange!
