THOUSANDS of pounds worth of stolen motorbikes have been seized by police from a house in West Swindon.

Five officers raided the property in Freshbrook to find motocross bikes, mini-motos and a mountain bike in a haul worth £10,000.

Police were alerted by a tip-off from a member of the public.

Officers are still hoping to trace the owners of two of the bikes – a small green mini-moto and a black youth scrambler.

“The bikes were found in the room of a house in West Swindon,” said beat officer Tom Turner, of West Swindon’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.

“The larger motocross bike and the downhill mountain bike, worth £3,000, have been accounted for, but we would like to make an appeal to the owner or owners of the two other bikes. A multi-coloured helmet was also recovered.

“This warrant is part of a series of on-going investigations of stolen bikes from garages and sheds in this area in the last two months.

“We are constantly keeping tabs on this and urge the public to contact us with intelligence of stolen bikes.”

Two men were questioned about the bikes and police say others will also be interviewed at a later date.

The bikes are being tested for forensics at the Greenbridge Recovery Centre and will be taken to Gablecross police station.

In March last year, the Adver reported how 10-year-old Brandon Bingham had become the victim of bike thieves for the third time in the space of a few months.

Brandon, of Freshbrook, had his new BMX bike stolen from outside Tesco at Freshbrook Village Centre after having a mountain bike stolen twice from outside the Link Centre. He had received the bicycle for Christmas to replace his last stolen bike.
