At Greendown Secondary School a music workshop took place in one of their music rooms. Different Primary schools chose 4 pupils to go to this workshop. Brookfield, Peatmoor, Haydon Leigh, West Leigh and Millbrook pupils took part in the workshop. They had to learn about the music that took place in Africa. They watched a small film about African women performing a piece of music. They listened carefully to the rhythm and how they perform their music. The teacher Mrs Few taught the class about the different equipment that Greendown used for music lessons. They had a wide range of instruments including hand sonics. Hand sonics are basically machines that when you hit them they make a different drum sound. They’re drums but not drums if you get what I mean?

They looked at African instruments and how to use them. They all got into groups and had to follow music patterns sometimes it got pretty confusing! Holly and Anahita from Peatmoor Community School both said they really enjoyed going on the hand sonics. Mrs Few said they all did very well. All the children enjoyed it! Angela Proctor Primary School coordinator from Greendown came at the end of the lesson to greet the children and hoped they had fun! By Ella Greenwood
