HUNDREDS of women are limbering up for the biggest fundraising event in Prospect Hospice’s calendar.

The charity’s Starlight Walk takes place on Saturday and will see almost 650 women line up in distinctive lime-green T-shirts for the night-time event.

The walk covers a 10km route starting and finishing at New College, in Queen’s Drive, with walkers setting off in two groups at 9.30pm or 10pm.

Many hospice staff are either taking part or volunteering to help on the night.

Last year about 600 women took part and raised £60,000 for the Wroughton hospice, but organisers are hoping to top that figure this time around.

While predominantly aimed at women and girls, the fundraising event is also open to men willing to dress up and look the part and there are still a few places left for anyone wishing to take part in the 10pm walk.

Sheryl Crouch, Prospect’s fundraising manager, said: “We already know that we will have a fantastic turn-out on the night, and we are all really looking forward to it.

“We’ve been brilliantly supported by sponsors Nationwide, and also by Swindon’s New College. The course will be well marshalled on the night, and all we hope for now is a warm, dry night.

“It promises to be a wonderful evening.”

If you would like to register for the fundraiser on Saturday call the fundraising team on 01793 815142, email starlightwalk@prospecthospice.net or log on to the website at www.prospecthospice.net/starlight.

It costs £15 to enter and it is hoped that walkers will raise about £100 a person through sponsorship.

Entries will not be accepted on the day.

Earlier this month Prospect Hospice appealed for male volunteers to help marshal the event. If you can spare any time on Saturday night and would like to help out call Hayley Millin on 01793 816154.
