WOOTTON Bassett is to host a Charity Fun Run on Sunday, August 9, featuring a 5km multi-terrain race.

The charity event will start out at Ballards Ash Sports Ground at 10am. The route will take entrants round Jubilee Lake, Lime Kiln, Coxstalls, Row-de-Dow, the High Street and then back to Jubilee Lake, finally arriving back at Ballards Ash.

The first 100 to finish will receive a medal and there will be a prize for the first male, female, boy and girl. Mayor, Councillor Steve Bucknell, said he would like to see the fun run become part of the town’s annual calendar and raise funds for his chosen charity this year, the Richard Jones Foundation.

Relying entirely on donations, this local educational charity dates back to 1688 and seeks to help students fulfil their potential by awarding grants to applicants up to the age of 25 years.

The Wootton Bassett Hounds has been helping to organise the run.

Club secretary Michelle Leighton said: “We were pleased to hear from Wootton Bassett Town Council and happy to be involved with the Mayor’s Charity Fun Run.

“At 5km or 3.1 miles, adults and children can come along and even if you walk some of the way, you can complete the route.”

There is a £5 registration fee for adults and £3 for under-16s. For more information contact Wootton Bassett Town Council on 01793 850222.
