AN INDIAN restaurant played host to some of the town’s memorable faces in aid of charity.

The Curry Place, in Rodbourne Road, organised an evening in aid of Kick For Life, which helps vulnerable children and adults in Africa.

Invited along was Swindon’s deputy mayor Coun Rex Barnett, former mayors Coun Michael Barnes and Coun Ray Fisher, as well as the current Miss Swindon, Sherie Smith. The idea was to raise money by offering cheaper prices for the meals and was first done in 2007 in aid of Twigs. This time round it was a fully-booked event.

Alongside the Indian food there was a raffle which raised extra funds with the total amount raised on the evening at £1,400, including a personal donation from Coun Rex Barnett.

“It was a fantastic night – everybody enjoyed the food so much and everyone liked each other,” said Curry Place owner, Mahmod Ali.

“We feel very proud that we have organised such an event and would encourage other Swindon businesses to do the same.”

The Curry Place has been running in Swindon for the last 15 years.
