STUDENTS at one Swindon college will become politicians for a day with the help of three parliamentary candidates.

On Friday, New College students will receive a talk from the North Swindon Conservative candidate Justin Tomlinson, South Swindon Green Party hopeful Jenni Miles, and Mark Dempsey, who hopes to be the next Labour MP in the Cotswolds.

The students, who are all studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, will then break off into groups to run their own mock political campaign.

New College public services lecturer Neil Pritchard said: “We felt the best way for our students to get a thorough understanding of the political system was to hear from prospective candidates who are involved in politics on a daily basis.”
