CHILDREN from Even Swindon Primary School are looking forward to meeting World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst.

The England hat-trick hero will be attending the Blunsdon Colts football festival at Isambard Community School, north Swindon, on Saturday.

The pupils from Even Swindon won the McDonald’s football kit competition after being selected from several entries by Paul Booth, the company’s Swindon franchisee.

They will be receiving a new kit and equipment from Sir Geoff.

Deputy headteacher Colin Jones said the sports goodies would be well received.

“Over the years the school kit has lost many items, particularly socks,” he said.

“Hence, the school can, on occasions, look like a ragamuffin outfit.

“The kit situation isn’t helped by the ever tightening school budgets.

“Our school has always worked hard to promote football at every level from the physical aspect of the game, through to linking football with the national curriculum.”

Sir Geoff will sign autographs in the afternoon and take a question and answer session.

There will be coaching for children and adults taken by Swindon Town’s Football In The Community coaches.

The whole day is based around a mini soccer festival with a World Cup theme.

There will be an inflatable skills area provided by McDonald’s where players can practise their overhead kicks and try their luck at target practice.

The Community Shield will also be making an appearance, and pupils will also have a chance to get their faces painted.

Cliff Boddy, of Blunsdon Colts FC, said that the club was looking to promote girls’ football during the day through playing and coaching.

Entrance is free and the day runs from 10am to 4pm, with Sir Geoff due to arrive at about 1pm.
