Carole Paulley was delighted to see the Advertiser’s Remember When article on Swindon Ballet Club on October 9, as she was once a member of the club herself.

Mrs Paulley – nee Allen – of Queen’s Drive, Old Walcot, Swindon, has sent another two photos of the club’s dancers, but these were taken in the 1950s, which she says is much later than the first, undated, set of pictures we received.

She says she recognises the faces of most of the dancers in the original pictures but cannot remember their names – apart from her cousin Margaret Jefferies, who was born in 1913 and lived in Avenue Road, Swindon.

Also in one of the original pictures is Madeleine Smart, who lived in Southampton Street, and was still a member of the ballet club when Mrs Paulley joined.

She also thinks, judging from the first photographs, that some of the costumes were still being used.

“As I can remember we were a devoted, rather than expert group of ballet dancers who enjoyed our sessions and the shows we did for charity,” she said.

Mrs Paulley left the group when she was about 18 and she says she does not know how long it carried on for after that.
