AN ex-Coronation Street star will be in town this week after a dramatic career change.

Sean Wilson, who played Corrie’s Martin Platt for over 20 years, will be showcasing his company’s, The Saddleworth Cheese Co, Lancashire cheeses at Michael Hart and Son Butchers, Cricklade, on Friday.

The cheeses, that have been named after traditional Lancashire phrases such as How’s Yer Father, Muldoons Picnic and Smelly Apeth, will be on show from 11am- 2pm.

He decided to swap the cobbles for cheese after hanging up his acting boots earlier this year to become a full-time artisan cheesemaker, described on his website as one of his life’s “pipedreams”.

Speaking on his website, Sean, who has also appeared on shows such as Waterloo Road, Strictly Come Dancing and Masterchef, said: “I have been blessed in my life as a very good and keen home chef.”

Stuart Hart, co-owner of Michael Hart and Son Butchers, said: “We met him at the Fine Food Fair in Olympia three months ago. He’s pretty well known up North and he’s decided to come and spread the word down South.

“He wants to show everyone his new career after quitting acting.”
