MORE than 200 people got into the festive spirit during the Christmas tree lights switch-on at the Swindon Designer Outlet.
Families gathered outside the shopping centre in Kemble Drive eagerly awaiting the moment on Saturday evening.
A performance of Swindonderella by the In-Depth Theatre Company on a small stage kept the crowds entertained until the main event.
Then a 30ft tree became illuminated with sparkling white lights, red baubles and gold stars. White paper snowflakes also filled the air to screams of delight from exited Swindon children.
Peter Jackson, four, of Rodbourne, said: “I can’t wait for Father Christmas to come. I like Christmas a lot.”
Danni Patterson, also four, went along with her mum Christine, 32, from New Town.
“It felt really magical,” said Christine. “I’m starting to feel the Christmas spirit. I can’t believe it’s only six weeks away.
“It was lovely tonight. So many families are here – it’s great.”
