WAR heroes will attend Swindon Town’s match against Leyton Orient to thanks fans for their support and pay tribute with a Hercules flyover.

About 350 military personnel from the Royal Navy, RAF and Army are expected to turn up at Saturday’s County Ground Game to pay tribute to fans who have helped raise £15,000 for Help for Heroes.

Fifty mascots whose parents are servicemen or women will accompany players onto the pitch. A tank will also be at the ground and a flyover will take place just before kick-off at 2.50pm.

Town football development officer Shane Hewlett said: “They want to come here and show their appreciation for the support in Swindon. Armed forces personnel will give supporters a round of applause.

“We appreciate it and what is lovely is they want to do it. We are really looking forward to this – there will be a big military presence around the ground.”

Saturday will be the second of three Armed Forces Day this season.

Mr Hewlett said: “Our players have been to visit Lyneham - it is about bringing our local communities closer.”

And he thanked Pertemps recruitment agency for sponsoring Armed Forces Day T-shirts for the mascots.
