Film: Miracle On 34th Street

If you want to see a heart-warming film this Christmas then Miracle on 34th Street is for you. The film follows the journey of a young girl, Susan Walker (played by Mara Wilson who later went on the play Matilda in Matilda) who is told by her mother that Santa does not exist. When her mother inadvertently hires Kris Kringle to play Father Christmas in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade she does not realised that she has in fact employed the real thing. Miracle on 34th Street then tells the tale of Kris trying to prove that he really is Santa Claus; following his trials and tribulation in making a little girl’s dreams come true.

Mara Wilson is a little gem portraying Susan, making little girls everywhere wishing they could be her. However the limelight is stolen by Richard Attenborough as Kris Kringle and Father Christmas, playing the role with ease and the believability of a true actor.

This is a perfect film for a non-believer in Santa Claus and Christmas to see. Whilst watching it you realise that even if you don’t believe; the spirit of joy and love will always prevail.

It shows that Christmas wishes can come true; if only you have enough faith to believe.
