Film: Raiders Of The Lost Ark

Indiana Jones is a trilogy of films directed by George Lucas about an archaeologist and teacher, Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, as he travels around the world in search of ancient artefacts. In the first film, released 1981, we see our hero travel to Cairo, Egypt, to find the Lost Ark of the Covenant, which contains the grains of sand left from the 10 Commandments. He is joined by his ex-lover, Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen. He picks her up in Nepal, where she owns a small bar. She is also the daughter of Abner Ravenwood, Jones’s old teacher. However, they are not the only ones looking for the Ark. Dr. René Belloq, Jones’s arch nemesis (played by Paul Freeman) wants to use the power to help the Nazis win the war, or so it seems. He actually wants to use the power to overthrow his allies and create a new force which he plans to use to rule the world.

This film marks the birth of the famous Raider’s March, also known as the Indiana Jones Theme. The film has a soundtrack composed by John Williams, who worked with George Lucas for other films, such as Star Wars. The whole soundtrack was done by the London Symphony Orchestra, and they did a really good job. However, the March does play quite often, albeit in different keys or speed. This usually brings a fitting atmosphere to the scene, but it does play a lot.

This film is really good, and it has become a cult classic. The 3 sequels do take the series down a bit, but other then that, it is very good. However, when I was watching it, it felt as if it was dragging on for a while. The action scenes work for the most part, but do not really feel real. They feel as if they have been put there just to drag out the ending, which comes about quite abruptly. Overall, this film is a good one, but it does feel a bit dragged out towards the end. I would recommend this film to anyone in need of a good classic.
