Film: Miracle On 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is based in New York, in Christmas time. A department store called ‘Coles’ is displaying a Christmas parade. A little girl called Susan – the manager’s daughter, doesn’t believe in Father Christmas but she then sees that if you believe in something that it may come true. This enchanting, magical film is trying to persuade everyone in New York to believe in Santa because no body is convinced that he is the real Father Christmas.

This magical Christmas film was first wrote in 1947 but released again in 1994 as a newer, modern version of a classic fantasy and family-fun film.

When the film first started playing, I thought to myself ‘What is this film I’ve chosen to watch?’ but as I carried on watching and saw lots of Christmas images and the sounds of jolly Christmas carols I started to enjoy this film more. I thought the beginning of the film wasn’t too good because for a Christmas film you didn’t really feel the spirit of the magic of Christmas. I thought the most effective part of the film was the ending, it was a very happy ending as the little girl’s dreams come true which makes your heart warm and you think ‘this is what Christmas is about’. It gives off the image of family love and togetherness.

Overall, I think that it is a good film but I only started to enjoy its full potential towards the middle and definitely the ending. I found the beginning of the film was quite hard to concentrate on and to try and adjust and get in to it, I found this because I think the plot wasn’t too good at the beginning but as the plot built up, it began to feel very magical and a really happy film.

I would recommend that you watch this film, especially if you want a feel-good film. This film is definitely great for families to watch together and get in the spirit of Christmas.
