PUPILS from Crowdys Hill school have used their creative skills to put together a unique Christmas tree.

The special school gets donations of scrap wood throughout the year from the nearby Jewson store, and decided to say thank you by making a tree out of wooden offcuts.

More than a dozen pupils used design programmes and elbow grease to build the tree, which was presented to the staff at Jewson yesterday afternoon.

The assistant manager at Jewson in Kembrey Street, Paul Ferris, was there for the presentation. He said: "It was a brilliant thing to do.

"We were embarrassed when they came in, there were half a dozen pupils and a teacher and we thought they were going to sing carols.

"We give the school our scrap wood throughout the year, and this was a lovely way of saying thank you."

Crowdys Hill in Jefferies Avenue, Swindon, is a special school for secondary aged pupils with learning difficulties.

There are currently 160 children aged 12 to 18 years attending the school.
