Animals take to the streets to campaign for their rights

SHOPPERS in Swindon town centre were greeted by some unfamiliar faces yesterday, as shop assistants donned masks for an animal welfare campaign.

The staff from Lush, on Canal Walk, handed out leaflets to customers and passers-by to raise awareness of animal rights issues in the run-up to the election.

The retailer is backing the ‘Vote 4 Animals’ campaign, run nationwide by Protecting Animals in Democracy, which aims to find out how parliamentary candidates stand on issues such as fox hunting, battery farming and animal testing.

Jessica Headley, 29, manager-in-training at the Swindon store, said: “It’s about raising public awareness about who people are voting for and if they are animal lovers they are not voting for someone who will bring back fox hunting for example.”
