ONE lucky lady will be leaving The Annual Charity Ball with a glittering diamond on her finger tonight after the pricey prize was put up by Deacon’s Jewellers.

Deacon and Son, in Wood Street, Old Town, donated the £2,000 sparkler to help raise money at the event this evening.

The night, which will be supporting Heart FMs Have A Heart Appeal, Swindon Samaritans, Twigs and the bowling club for the blind Swindon, Bats, is being held at the Mariott Hotel, in Pipers Way.

Richard Deacon, the owner of Deacon and Son, said: “It is always a pleasure to help such worthwhile causes and the diamond ring is always a big draw at the charity ball.

“At £2,000 we’re hoping to raise a significant amount of money for charity.”

The ring, with a one carat diamond and set on an 18 carat yellow gold band, is the main raffle prize at the ball, which will be drawn at midnight.

The theme of this year’s charity ball is fire and ice and includes entertainment from electric string quartet Asteria, an auction for a nine-day holiday to Egypt, a seven-day holiday to Washington DC, and the diamond ring.

Hadyn Beer, the chairman of the organisers, said: “The Charity Ball is always a big event, drawing in a lot of people from around the town.

“We always choose Swindon charities as it’s important to support local organisations.

“We’re thrilled that Deacon’s has donated the diamond ring as it is incredibly popular.

“There’s always a lot of men buying tickets for their wives or girlfriends and lots of women vying for it.”

Tickets priced at £75 a person can be obtained from Hadyn on 07887 508877 or by emailing hadyn@edwardspartnership.
