POLICE have launched an appeal for witnesses about a serious sexual assault in Swindon last week.

The incident took place around Manchester Road and Corporation Street between 10.30pm and 2.10am on Tuesday, May 4, and Wednesday, May 5.

The female victim, who is described by police as white, was left extremely traumatised following the incident.

Specially trained investigators were called in over a number of days to piece together what happened.

Detectives have established that the victim met two men in the Manchester Road/Corporation Street area.

"The three people engaged in conversation, before the two men were invited back to the woman’s home," said police in a statement. "It was inside her home that the sexual assault took place."

Police added that a detailed forensic examination has been completed at the scene, and expert scientists have been helping them with their enquiries.

"It has been essential to await the result of these forensic examinations, prior to the full details of this offence being released into the public domain," said the statement.

Police have released details of the two men, who initially spoke to the victim in Alfred Street.

One was a male of Asian appearance in his mid 20’s to early 30’s. He was 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in in height, slim build wtih an oval shaped face. He had black hair which was brushed to one side and facial stubble.

The man was wearing a dark grey leather look waist length jacket and dark blue jeans.

The second man was also Asian in appearance, in his late 20s and standing between 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall. He had a stocky build, but not fat, with a round face and short black hair which was receding at the sides.

He was wearing a navy bomber style jacket and dark blue jeans. He was carrying a blue carrier bag.
