POLICE were out on the streets of Swindon last night, exactly a month after a woman was seriously sexually assaulted in her home.

Officers were speaking to people who might have been in the area at the time of the incident.

They had with them photofits of the two alleged offenders as well as CCTV images of two men who were in the area at the time and are possible witnesses.

Det Insp Andy Bridge, of Swindon CID, said: “We are four weeks on from the actual incident so the objective is to put staff in the Manchester Road and Corporation Road area and also by the railway station to talk to people in the area and see if they were around four weeks ago and do they hold any information for us in respect of the photofits we have produced with the victim.

“We will also be speaking to taxi drivers, because a taxi fare was something that was mentioned to the victim and we hope that will jog some memories.

“We have already been in dialogue with them and have information from them about their jobs that evening, but they do get flagged down and that’s not necessarily on record.”

The 36-year-old woman was attacked by two men after meeting them at Alfred Street, near the junction of Manchester Road and Corporation Street, at 10.30pm on May 4.

She agreed to let them wait in her home for a taxi they said they had called, but assaulted her when they got to her house.

DI Bridge said the woman did not know the attackers, who are described as Asian and are believed to be friends.

He said: “The victim was left extremely traumatised by the incident and specially trained staff have been involved over a number of days and are still keeping in touch with her and offering counselling support.”

An incident room has been set up to investigate the attack with between 12 and 15 officers working on the case full time. He said: “It reflects the seriousness of what we are dealing with here and gives that reassurance to the public that we are committed to finding the people who did this.”

The first man was of Asian appearance, in his mid 20s to early 30s, 5ft 6ins to 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build, with an oval shaped face, black hair brushed to one side and facial stubble.

He was wearing a dark grey leather-look waist length jacket and dark blue jeans.

The second man was also of Asian appearance, in his late 20s, 5ft 7ins to 5ft 9ins tall, of stocky build but not fat, with a round face and short black hair (approximately an inch long) that was receding at the sides.

He was wearing a navy bomber-style jacket and dark blue jeans and had a blue carrier bag.
