A PRIMARY school has unveiled new play facilities designed by its pupils.

Children at Eldene Primary School were heavily involved in planning, designing and transforming their playground with a £4,000 project funded by RBS Supergrounds.

Pupils from the school, in Colingsmead, Eldene, joined teachers, parents, friends and bank staff to unveil their brand new natural play area, mobile play equipment and climbing wall.

RBS Supergrounds is a £6m community investment initiative now in its sixth and final year launched by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, which chooses 150 school playgrounds to improve each year.

It is designed to strengthen ties between bank staff and their communities.

The funding came about through a nomination by RBS employee Paul de Boer, who is a parent and governor at the school.

Through a staff engagement programme all staff were encouraged to nominate schools and help them work on a bid.

Eldene Primary School found out it had been successful in October last year.

Mr de Boer said: “As a parent I know what a difference an area like this will make to the lives of the children and I’m really proud that my employers, through RBS Supergrounds, have turned the school’s dream of creating these play areas into reality, providing the children with a fun and stimulating learning environment.”

Heather Kellett, joint head teacher at Eldene Primary School, said: “This project has provided a wonderful learning opportunity that has allowed all of our children to be involved in a very positive change.

“We are so pleased to have Paul de Boer from RBS as one of our parents, as his commitment to the school is fantastic.

“Helping us, via RBS Supergrounds, will ensure that he has left us a legacy for the future.”
