POST was left signed, sealed and delivered even though the delivery trolley was left abandoned overnight.

Passers-by were left confused and concerned when they saw a Royal Mail delivery trolley left abandoned outside Chatsworth House, in Bath Road, Old Town.

The red piece of equipment was first spotted outside the building at lunchtime on Monday and was still there at noon today.

No mail was left in the trolley, which was under a tree in full view to the street, but it did have delivery forms tied to the handles.

Scores of people stopped to inspect the trolley, which had no note or any indication of why it had been left, concerned that mail may have been left inside it or that the postman may have been injured along their route and unable to return to it.

And the staff at Chatsworth House said they had not been informed why the trolley had been left outside.

It was finally removed yesterday afternoon after the Adver called the Royal Mail to find out what was happening.

A spokeswoman from Royal Mail said: “The reason it was left was because there was a fault with the trolley and it could not be moved.

“It was left where it was, with all the mail being taken out and delivered, and it was retrieved at the end of rounds the next day.”
