CAROLS singers entered a winter wonderland as they stepped into Queens Park, thanks to the snow.

More than 100 people turned out to the service, organised by Queens Park Community Council, which was held on Saturday night.

Visitors joined in with the Swindon Choral Society, singing classic carols including Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful and were treated to mince pies and mulled wine to keep the cold at bay.

The air was also warmed by a fire juggling display from Jake the Juggler, which lit up the park Organisers of the event, Coun Stan Pajak (Lib Dem, Eastcott) and the Queens Park Community Council, said the event epitomised the Christmas spirit.

“It’s a lovely event and the weather is absolutely perfect. The park looks very picturesque tonight,” said Coun Pajak. “This is what Christmas is about, with the entertainment and the community enjoying themselves and coming together to meet up.”

Children were also treated to a visit from Santa, who handed out presents.

Swindon South MP Robert Buckland, who mysteriously disappeared when Santa arrived, said: “This is great to get involved in such a fantastic community event.

“The Queens Park community are great and they do this every year.

“This is a great park and it needs to be celebrated. It’s a real jewel for Swindon and this event showcases it beautifully.

“The weather we have had just adds to the occasion and makes it more magical.”

Mary Way, 36, said: “It has been a lovely event and we weren’t sure if it would go ahead at one point with the snow, but it has created a beautiful setting.

“It’s great to have an event like this and it has made everyone feel very Christmassy.”

Unfortunately, the snow was not good news for the Salvation Army, who were unable to attend due to the bad weather.
