MORE enthusiastic fundraisers are needed to put on their trainers and hop to it for charity later this year.

The Wiltshire Breakthrough Breast Cancer group is looking for runners, joggers and walkers to take part in the Mad March Hare fun run on March 27. The fun run could see 800 entrants go on a 10km or 5km run or walk around Lydiard Park.

Amanda Martin, a member of the Mad March Hare organising team, said: “Now is a good time of year to start getting fit. We are trying to encourage people to come along and make it their first event if they have never done one before.

“It is a start to get fit and achieve something very special, some people go on to achieve a lot.”

The annual event was part-founded by cancer sufferer Shirley Garman in 2008, whose dream was to raise £1m for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Wiltshire group before her death.

Mother-of-two Shirley, of Gorse Hill, lost her 15-year battle with cancer in September 2009. The event has so far helped to raise more than £28,500 in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Wiltshire and Amanda said they are hoping to raise at least £40,000 this year.

Entry is £12 for adults or £6 for children aged 14 and under. All profits going to Wiltshire Breakthrough Breast Cancer group. To enter, log on to www.madmarchhare.org.uk or pick up an entry form in a local sports centre or store.
