STAFF at a Wetherspoons’ pub got drinkers in a charitable mood with an auction for the charity, Hop, Skip and Jump.

Richard Hobbs, 22, and Tony Jackson, who both work at The Savoy in Regent Street, were helped in their charity endeavour by Swindon Town FC, which provided prizes and suggested the charity, which is an associated cause for the club, to be the beneficiary.

“We have worked closely with the County Ground for this and hope to carry on working with them,” said 23-year-old Tony.

“Raising money for a local charity definitely helps because people can see where the money is going and it means more to people.”

Organisers hope to raise £500 for the Bristol-based charity, which provides resource centres for children with disabilities, learning difficulties and serious illnesses.

The money will go towards a state of the art facility at Lydiard Park, to supportive a environment for children with special needs and their families, including mobility therapy, sensory rooms, assessment facilities and play areas.

Duty manager Richard said they had already raised £340 and it was just the beginning of the pub’s support for the charity.

“We are hoping to carry on collecting for Hop, Skip and Jump for the next three to four weeks so hopefully we’ll raise close to £500,” he said. First prize in the raffle is a signed Swindon Town shirt and second prize is a full Town kit and a hamper.
