A SPECIAL bus will be touring the town as part of an initiative by Swindon Borough Council to improve its housing services to tenants.
The Community Safety Partnership bus will be stopping off at various locations next Tuesday and Thursday to consult with council tenants on how to drive up standards in a variety of service areas.
The bus will feature displays on ‘local offers’, while housing officers will also be on hand to discuss tenants’ thoughts and ideas.
Tea and coffee will be available at each stop and Neighbourhood Wardens will join housing officers to answer questions about the areas where tenants live.
A ‘local offer’ is a service standard and the Government hopes that by engaging with tenants, social housing landlords can improve five key service areas.
Anyone who takes part in the event will be in with the chance of winning £20 in shopping vouchers, which will be drawn from the comments forms handed in on the bus.
Tenants who are unable to visit the bus can still enter by filling out a feedback form in the latest edition of the tenant magazine Housing Matters.
‘Local offers’ will then be finalised by March and tenants will be informed of the results in the spring edition of Housing Matters and on the council’s website.
The five standards which have been set by the Tenant Services Authority (TSA), the current regulator for housing, include: l a tenant involvement and empowerment standard (which includes how social housing landlords listen to tenants and how tenants feel they are treated and respected as customers), l a home standard (which includes repairs and maintenance to tenants’ homes) l a tenancy standard (which focuses on how social housing landlords let and manage council properties) l a neighbourhood and community standard (which focuses on how social housing landlords look after the neighbourhood and communal areas around homes and how they tackle anti-social behaviour) l a value for money standard (which deals with whether social housing landlords make best use of the money they spend on services for tenants).
