Free cycle parking is available to community groups and small businesses based in Swindon. The stands are available as part of the 'Take a stand' scheme run by cycling charity Life Cycle.

Life Cycle is working in partnership with Swindon Borough Council to offer the stands and two are available per application. To date, 40 stands have been supplied to 20 organisations in the Swindon Borough Council area. These include churches, parish councils, charities and community groups. A small number are still available.

Charlie Bolton, Take a Stand Co-ordinator for Life Cycle said 'As a cycling charity, we are keen to get people cycling, and offering good quality cycle parking is one good way of doing this. We have a number of stands still available, and want to here from people interested in installing them.

Organisations interested need to install the stands themsleves. They must not be part of a planning application, or installed on the public highway. they are supplied and delivered free of charge. Life Cycle have given out hundreds of stands in the South-west under the scheme in the last 18 months. Cycle parking is a proven way of increase levels of cycling. A recent survey run by Life Cycle suggests that in 70% of cases where cycle stands are installed, there is an increase in the amount of cycling.
