YOUNG people got an opportunity to see the inner-workings of the county’s police force.

Teenagers from Swindon and Wiltshire visited Wiltshire Police Headquarters, in Devizes and saw behind the scenes of daily operations including the dog section and armed response group.

The group were made up of representatives from Wiltshire Assembly of Youth and Swindon Youth Forum, who were greeted by representatives of the police authority and the force, including Assistant Chief Constable Pat Geenty.

Insp Dave Bonner-Smith said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working with the group. It is vital that we engage with and involve the young people of our community in preparing our local force strategy, because they will know what is important to them.”

Paul Dobson, Project Manager of the Swindon Youth Forum, said: “It’s good to be given the chance to help the police, we have a wide spread of representatives from different social backgrounds and they will be able to contribute to this new plan in many ways.”

Wiltshire Police will be working with both groups in the coming months to develop the recently launched national Children and Young People Strategy.
