THERE have been angry scenes outside court as taxi driver Christopher Halliwell arrived to face a charge of murdering Swindon nightclubber Sian O'Callaghan.

Two men had to be restrained as a van believed to be carrying Halliwell, 47, drove to Swindon Magistrates' Court.

A crowd of about 50 people gathered outside the back entrance to the court this morning.

About 25 uniformed police officers lined the street to hold back the crowd.

Many people were shouting abuse and threats and some women were in tears.

Two men ran up to the van, banging on the side, and were moved back by police.

Sian disappeared after leaving the Suju nightclub a week last Saturday after a night out with girl friends.

Halliwell was arrested by Wiltshire Police on Thursday and charged on Saturday night with killing the 22-year-old.
