A GIANT rabbit has been taken in by vets who fear she may have escaped from her family home.

The bunny, which weighs a whopping 8kg and is twice the size of the average cat, was found wandering near the town centre and was taken to Thameswood Veterinary Clinic by a concerned member of the public.

The vets have had no calls about her since she was dropped off on Monday night and have had to keep her in the dog kennels because she is so big.

Now they are asking the owners to come forward so that she can be returned to her home.

Chris Wood, the client care manager at the clinic in Purton Road, Moredon, said the rabbit was healthy and had been looked after.

She said: “She was brought in to our main clinic after being found hopping along the road near the town centre.

“She is giant rabbit and has clearly had a home recently as she is well cared for, but we have not yet had any contact from anyone looking for her.

“She is about three to four years old, and currently weighs 8kg which is twice the weight of an average cat. So she will be leaving a big hole in someone’s life.

“She’s absolutely fine and perfectly fit and healthy.

“She has clearly been looked after and well fed. She is quite used to being handled.

“We are hoping she has just escaped and not been dumped as she has a lovely nature and enjoys cuddles with our nurses.

“She’s in one of our big walking kennels we use for the dogs because we have a garden area out the back. But it’s not fair to keep them out of their natural environment. We generally only look after them for around seven days and then she might get fostered by one of the nurses while we try and find her home.”

Anyone who recognises the rabbit is asked to contact the clinic on 01793 526780 as soon as possible.
