I remember back in June 2004 after Swindon had just finished a brilliant season in League One where we only just fell short of a playoff final against Bristol City I heard a rumour that Tommy Mooney was linked to a move to Oxford.

At the time I just laughed it off as just transfer talk, but only a few days later Mooney was signed up as Oxford Utd player.

Today Town have had a bid turned down for Oxford striker James Constable.

With reports from Sky Sports News saying that Constable himself has asked to talk to Swindon about a possible move after a bid was rejected by Oxford.

Could this be our revenge for eight years ago?

Can this transfer even happen?

Personally I would be surprised if we see Constable in a Swindon Town shirt this season.

I disagree with many fans when they say he isn’t good enough, I think he’d do a great job for Town this season and beyond.

The main stumbling block would possibly be Oxford just raising his asking price so high that Town will be put off by any possible deal.

The only way he will get a move to Town is if he hands in a transfer request with the U’s.

It sounds like the player is interested in joining Town, which is no surprise after reports at the start of the season saying he was a Swindon fan growing up.

If the move did happen it would add something extra to the massive game in early March at the Kassam Stadium.

They do say that anything is possible in the world of football so we can’t rule anything out.

After this news today it sounds like Paolo and the boards aren’t hanging around till the end of January like we did last season with Elliot Benyon.

Which would cost the club a bit more in transfer fee’s but I think its best we get all our transfer deals done sooner rather than later.
