PAOLO Di Canio will be putting his shooting boots back on as his handpicked team take on former Town legends in a charity match at the end of the season.

The game, in aid of the club’s chosen charity Wiltshire Air Ambulance, will take place at the County Ground on Wednesday, May 2.

The Town boss is thought to be calling in a few favours with former team-mates but as yet there have been no names confirmed, while their opposition is shaping up to include Fraser Digby, Lee Peacock, Micky Hazard and Sammy Igoe. Current club captain Paul Caddis will manage the side.

Tickets have gone on sale and fans will be hoping the former West Ham hero can hit another wonder strike like his goal against Wimbledon in the 1999/2000 season, pictured above – which has been shortlisted as one of the best 20 goals in the Premier League as it marks its 20th anniversary this year.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance head of fundraising Caroline Corrigan said: “We already have a quite a side together of former Town players and Jonathan Wilkes is also lining up.

“Paul Caddis bit my hand off when I asked him to be captain too and it will be interesting to have the captain against the manager.

“I’m really hoping to be able to fill the County Ground and Paolo is trying to get some of his old team-mates in so there will be plenty to get fans excited.

“Fans have been wanting to see Paolo play and his will be the first time he will get his boots on. Hopefully Swindon will be champions by then too.”

The Wiltshire Air Ambulance, based in Devizes, needs £700,000 a year in fundraising money as it receives no financial support from the Government.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and are available from the Swindon Town box office on www.swindon townfc.co.uk or 0871 876 1993.

Hospitality packages are also available for £25 per person and there are 22 mascot places costing £40 for one adult and one child to lead the teams out.
