ONE lucky reader now has a library at her fingertips after winning a brand new e-reader.

Jean McMullin, a regular visitor at North Swindon Library, in Haydon Wick, beat 700 others to the prize, which was put up as part of the launch of the new e-book facility.

Tracey Dowling, lead librarian for adult and learning, said: “Jean was thrilled to bits – she is one of our regulars and is a big reader.

“We launched the competition because we now do e-books and so far we are up to 1,200 withdrawals, which is fantastic.

“I don’t think e-books are replacing books, but they are another way of doing it. And there are no late returns and fines and you can download them any time of the day.

“At the moment people’s favourite is the Hunger Games, which is popular because the film is out.

“To have 700 enter the competition was brilliant and probably the biggest we’ve ever had for a competition – it was a great prize.”
