CULT film star and Coronation Street veteran Margi Clarke comes to Swindon next week.

The Liverpool-born actress heads the cast of Hormonal Housewives, a show written by Julie Coombe and John McIsaac, whose tour stops at the Wyvern Theatre on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Audiences are promised “weight gain, weight loss, mood swings, wine, PMS, men, going to the gym, waxing, stretch marks, men, chocolate, upper-lip hair, chocolate, men, chocolate…and all the other joys of being a 21st Century girl! Did we mention men and chocolate?”

Margi first found fame in her native city during the late 1970s, fronting bands from the emerging punk scene, and later became co-presenter of a TV arts programme.

A major role in acclaimed British film Letter To Brezhnev came in 1985, and was followed by other parts, including a brief stint in Brookside and a more substantial one as Jackie Dobbs, mother of Tyrone, in Coronation Street.

She was a regular guest on notorious 1990s late night show The Word and appeared in last year’s Celebrity Masterchef.

Margi’s co-stars in Hormonal Housewives are Laura Checkley and the piece’s co-writer, Julie Coombe.

Julie was born in Glasgow, grew up in Ayrshire and now lives in Edinburgh.

Her work has incorporated theatre, radio, television and comedy in productions ranging from Shakespeare to new writing and pantomime.

Laura is one half of female double act Checkley & Bush, and runs her own comedy night at a venue in Leicester Square.

Performances of Hormonal Housewives will start at 7.30pm next Tuesday and Wednesday, with tickets costing from £17.50 to £23.50.
